Blanche et Noir

A revolutionary meeting

We are in Venice, at the beginning of the1920s.

The two female designers, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli, are bitter rivals. Coco never called Elsa by her name, but referred to her as „that Italian artist who designs clothes”.

They were both present at the performance of Le Sacre de Printemps at LA FENICE. Afterwards, the fashion designers have an invitation for a Gala Dinner at the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido. Unfortunately the host had no knowledge of the animosity between the two designers and seated them next to each other.

As I am nearby, I hear how Elsa Schiapparelli turns and starts an unexpected dialogue.

„Coco, let us bury the hatchet, and provoke the public with our extraordinary cooperation.”

Coco turns to her with an arrogant expression, „speak on”.

„We work together to design a limited edition of jewellery, combining your use of classic black and white with my design of a mouth, made of Venetian Glass: earrings, bracelets, brooches. We call the collection:”

SALTIMBOCCA: BLANCHE ET NOIR

Coco answers with an ironic smile, „Why not, Madam, an unexpected joint venture. I can already see the women in front of me, who can‘t wait to own a piece of our creations…”
